OUR VISION FOR WAIMANGU VOLCANIC VALLEY LTD To be New Zealand’s leading Eco Tourism Destination.
“We do not inherit our land from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.'
FINANCIAL The implementation has been done in small “bite sized” pieces and, where ever possible, carried out by our own staff. This means that our financial risk has been minimized and our staff has high ownership of the Plan and its development.
SOCIAL As well as caring for and working to enhance the Waimangu Eco System, we put a lot of work into our local community and our industry. This ranges from free admission and interpretation for local schools visiting Waimangu Volcanic Valley to our CEO being appointed to the Rotorua Bright Economy Board which advises the Regional Government on the Rotorua region’s future sustainable development.
We are founder members (and CEO chairman since 1998) of the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter. This is an association of local tourism operators committed to sustainable development. This Charter was the first of its kind in New Zealand. All our community work is done for no financial reward.
CULTURAL At all times we have consulted with, and acknowledged our links to, Tanga Te Whenua (People of the Land), and the history of Waimangu. These friendships have given rise to an innovative partnership for the environmental restoration of a small island, amongst other benefits for all parties. Our staff are proud of their “Kiwi Hospitality” – warm, sharing, welcoming and knowledgeable.
ENVIRONMENT Our environmental work goes beyond the sustainable use of resources (water, energy, land and materials). Voluntarily, and at our own cost, we undertake environmental restoration work and pest eradication on land outside of our lease hold. |
