How To Get Here?

We are located at 587 Waimangu Road, Rotorua, New Zealand. You can drive, cycle or take a shuttle to Waimangu.

Drivers and Cyclists

From Rotorua: 

Travel south of Rotorua on State Highway 5 (the Rotorua-Taupō Highway), look out for the Waimangu Volcanic Valley road signs approximately 14kms after leaving Rotorua. Turn left onto Waimangu Road. Then drive 6kms along Waimangu Road to our entrance and car park. Waimangu is approximately a 25-minute drive from the centre of Rotorua City.

From Taupō:

Go North from Taupō on State Highway 5, continue on SH5 past the intersection with SH38 and take the next turn right onto Waimangu Road. (There is a Waimangu road sign 300 mtrs before the SH5 / Waimangu Road intersection). Then drive 6km along Waimangu road into our car park. Waimangu is approximately a 50-minute drive from the centre of Taupō township.

Alternative route from Taupō:

From Taupo travel north on SH5 for 45 minutes. Turn right at the intersection onto SH 38 – Murupara. Take the first left onto Okaro Road. You’ll travel past Lake Okaro, scenic wetland and toilets on your right.

Travel on Okaro Road for 5 minutes and you’ll reach the Waimangu carpark and entrance on your right at the hairpin corner.

Shuttle Transport

If you don’t have your own transport, no problem! A convenient shuttle bus departs daily from outside the Rotorua i-SITE downtown. Leaving at 9 am, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the valley, before returning back to Rotorua city centre by 1:30 pm. Prior bookings are essential by calling the i-SITE on 07 348 5179, or by booking online – at least 2 adults must be booked for the service to operate.
