Waimangu Volcanic Valley - Visitor Options

“Thermal wonderland . About 30 minutes by car from Rotorua for anyone wanting to see fantastic thermal activity and fabulous native bush in the one setting, this place is hard to go past. You do need a reasonable level of fitness to get to Lake Rotomahana but there is a bus that will get you back up the hill. Some of the track is steep so good footwear is a must.  We were so awestruck by the majesty of the place we took over 2.5 hours getting to the lake so we missed the last boat trip but that didn't detract from the entire experience. The highlight for me was seeing the on-going re-birth of the terraces that were destroyed in the Tarawera eruption - assuming no more eruptions they'll look fantastic in a few hundred years time!"  Visitor from Auckland, NZ, September 2016
